Georgetown to Compete with BYU, Dayton, and Miami in Orlando for Feast Week 2025

FEAST WEEK 2025: Georgetown Reportedly Joining BYU, Dayton, and Miami in Orlando

Jon Rothstein reports Hoyas set for new Thanksgiving Week tournament

Hoya fans, mark your calendars (or at least tentatively)! The trusted Jon Rothstein has revealed that Georgetown will headline an exciting four-team MTE (Multi-Team Event) in Orlando during Thanksgiving Week 2025. Joining the Hoyas in sunny Florida will be a strong trio: BYU, Miami, and Dayton.

Although matchups remain under wraps and an official announcement timeline is not yet available, the prospect of facing these teams is sure to excite any Georgetown supporter.

The BYU Cougars (KenPom 27), fresh off their Big 12 debut, are known for their explosive offense. A matchup with them would provide a great early challenge for Georgetown’s defense. It’s also notable that BYU’s decision to leave the Diamond Head Classic (which is canceled in 2025) underscores the appeal of this new Orlando event.

The Miami Hurricanes (KenPom 190) will have a new head coach in Duke’s Jai Lucas. A game against Miami would offer Georgetown a chance to gauge its strength against an ACC team in transition.

The Dayton Flyers (KenPom 79), a regular contender from the Atlantic 10, are known for their dedicated fanbase and solid team play. A contest with Dayton would be a tough, competitive battle, perfect for setting the tone for the season.

For Georgetown, this MTE presents a major opportunity. Building a strong non-conference resume is crucial for NCAA Tournament hopes, and a strong performance in Orlando could be a huge boost.

What makes this news especially intriguing is its potential to signify a jump to the next level. By 2025, Ed Cooley will have had time to establish his system and build a competitive roster. This Orlando trip could mark a key moment in the program’s growth.

Georgetown will add two solid neutral-court games with this MTE, along with a visit to Maryland already scheduled. Games against Syracuse and/or Notre Dame are not planned for next year, though Red Autry did express interest in continuing their rivalry.

Of course, the absence of official details about this Florida MTE leaves many questions. When will the matchups be revealed? Where in Orlando will the games take place? Will Disney or ESPN be involved? And, most importantly, how many Hoya fans will head to Florida? What will they have for lunch?

The event could be the ESPN Events Invitational—formerly known as the Orlando Invitational, Orlando Classic, Old Spice Classic, and Advocare Invitational. Historically an eight-team tournament, it was reduced to a four-team field in 2024, with Florida, Wichita State, Wake Forest, and Minnesota playing two games each over Thanksgiving. Georgetown placed third in the 2008 Old Spice Classic, losing to Tennessee and then defeating Maryland.

As we await further details, one thing is clear: Thanksgiving Week 2025 just became much more exciting for Georgetown basketball. Stay tuned for official announcements, and start thinking about your Orlando trip!
