The Kansas Jayhawks are no longer part of the AP Top 25 for the first time in over four years.
Following their 34-point defeat to the unranked BYU Cougars, the Kansas Jayhawks have fallen out of the AP Poll for the first time since 2021.
Though Kansas bounced back with a win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys, they have dropped out of the AP Top 25 Poll for the first time since February 2021, marking a stretch of over four years.
Initially ranked as the No. 1 team in preseason polls, the Jayhawks now sit at 18-9 overall and are in sixth place in the Big 12. The turning point came after their crushing loss to BYU, a 34-point setback that sealed their fall out of the rankings.
Kansas had been No. 23 when they traveled to Provo, but the stunning loss to the unranked Cougars ended any hopes of salvaging their spot in the national rankings.
Beginning the season with a seven-game win streak, including victories over ranked North Carolina and Duke teams, the Jayhawks hit a rough patch with losses to unranked Creighton and Missouri, and they have struggled to regain their rhythm.
With only four regular-season conference games remaining, Kansas is barely hanging on to a winning record in Big 12 play. They will face three ranked opponents: the No. 10 Texas Tech Red Raiders, the No. 4 Houston Cougars, and the No. 22 Arizona Wildcats.
Kansas hasn’t dropped out of the Top 25 since the 2020-21 season, when they faced double-digit losses to Tennessee and West Virginia. That season, the Jayhawks were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament by USC in the second round.
