Warriors’ Jimmy Butler Faces Lawsuit After Trade From Miami Heat
When Jimmy Butler was traded from the Miami Heat to the Golden State Warriors, it appeared he left behind a trail of damaged relationships. His once strong connection with Pat Riley seemed to have soured, and his trade demands upset some fans.
Beyond the basketball world, others have now turned their attention to Butler, with recent reports revealing that he is being sued by a Miami-based property management firm.
In November 2022, Butler signed a two-year lease for a beach house owned by Five Star Marketing and Promotions. The rent was a hefty $130,000 per month, and it is claimed that he overstayed his lease by two months and caused damage to the property.
“Additionally, the lawsuit states that Butler left the house in poor condition,” reported Local 10 News. “Court documents also claim Butler caused $125,000 in damages, including mold, damaged drywall and flooring, a neglected pool, and a broken HVAC system. The suit further alleges Butler changed the locks and blocked the property owner’s access for inspections.”
One might argue that issues like mold, flooring damage, and pool upkeep could fall on the landlord, not the tenant, but the specifics of the lease agreement have not been made public, so Butler could still be held accountable. It is difficult to defend him for overstaying his lease, and he is now being sued for $257,282 after losing his $130,000 security deposit.
As Butler continues searching for housing in the Bay Area, this legal matter could complicate his rental search more than anticipated.
