NBA Official Breaks Silence on Anthony Edwards Punishment After Lakers Game

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards was ejected during Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers. Edwards scored 18 points, grabbed six rebounds, and provided five assists in Minnesota’s 111-102 loss to Los Angeles, but his game ended after only 26 minutes of play. He received his first technical foul following a confrontation with Lakers forward Jarred Vanderbilt, marking his 15th technical of the season, the most in the league. The NBA enforces an automatic suspension for players who reach 16 technical fouls in a season, which Edwards achieved later in the game. “Anthony Edwards picked up his 16th technical foul of the season vs. the Lakers,” SportsCenter posted on X. “He was ejected from the game and will be suspended for the Wolves’ next game.”

In a Pool Report after the game, Jovan Buha of The Athletic asked Crew Chief James Williams for an explanation regarding Edwards’ ejection. When asked why Edwards received his first technical foul, Williams explained, “Anthony Edwards was called for his first unsportsmanlike technical foul for shoving Jarred Vanderbilt in the back.” Regarding Edwards’ second technical foul, Williams confirmed, “Yes. [Edwards] was issued his second unsportsmanlike technical foul for directing profanity towards the game official.” Buha concluded his questioning by asking Williams if the automatic ejection was considered after Edwards’ second technical. “Yes, it was considered,” Williams responded. If neither of Edwards’ technical fouls is rescinded, he will be suspended for Minnesota’s next game against the Utah Jazz on Friday.
