Lions Worst Myles Garrett Nightmare Could End Super Bowl Hopes

Key Insights from Lions GM Brad Holmes at the 2025 Combine

The Detroit Lions, at least on the surface, seem to be lukewarm about pursuing Myles Garrett.

Conversely, the Philadelphia Eagles, a strong contender in the NFC, are reportedly looking to make a significant acquisition this offseason.

NFL reporter Dianna Russini has indicated that Eagles GM Howie Roseman is eager to take bold steps before the 2025 NFL season begins.

Russini noted, “There are whispers that Howie is ready to part with some players as he aims for a major move, and that move could involve Myles Garrett.”

At the combine, the Browns’ management and coaching staff firmly stated that their All-Pro defensive lineman was not available.

“Garrett could be this year’s equivalent of Saquon Barkley for Howie,” an NFL GM reportedly shared with Russini. “He’s a game-changing addition without being an overpriced free agent. Howie isn’t hesitant to take risks, which aligns with their team’s direction.”

Holmes recently acknowledged that acquiring a top-tier edge rusher would pose challenges for the Lions.

While the team is always in search of skilled edge rushers, Holmes and his team may be reluctant to trade away players or multiple draft picks. He wanted to temper expectations, as dealing for sought-after players is often difficult.

Detroit will likely need to allocate considerable resources towards players like Aidan Hutchinson, Jameson Williams, and Kerby Joseph, leaving minimal capacity to add Garrett to their lineup.

Unfortunately, the Eagles seem to be taking a different approach publicly.

If one of the league’s premier pass rushers joins Philadelphia, it could quickly close Detroit’s current Super Bowl window. With one of the strongest defensive lines already in place, adding Garrett would make it even harder for opponents to compete.

For Lions supporters, let’s hope this is merely the Eagles trying to enhance their public image, as the NFL community has been lauding the organization for its willingness to be aggressive and bold, even after securing a Super Bowl victory.
