The Sheffield Steelers bounced back impressively on Sunday night, securing a resounding 10-4 victory over the Dundee Stars in a high-scoring, action-packed game. After a hectic first period, Sheffield took control in the second and continued to dominate in the third, earning a crucial win to maintain their pursuit of the top spot in the standings.

Sheffield set the tone early, scoring just 28 seconds into the game when Mark Simpson’s rebound deflected off his skate. Dundee quickly responded with a goal from Spencer Naas, but Sheffield regained the lead shortly after, with Marco Vallerand and Mikko Juusola scoring before the 11-minute mark.

Colton Saucerman added to the Steelers’ lead with a powerful slapshot from the blue line, making it 4-1. However, Dundee responded late in the period, with Brendan Harms scoring after a scramble in front of Sheffield’s net.

Dundee came out strong after the break, but Sheffield was the first to strike in the second period at 25:52. Juusola’s speed created a chance for Brien Diffley, who shot into the top corner to make it 5-2. The Stars fought back, with Keanu Yamamoto cutting the deficit to two goals with a nifty move around Matthew Greenfield.

Sheffield extended their lead at 36:57, as a well-executed passing play set up Brandon Whistle for a goal, giving the Steelers a 6-3 advantage heading into the third period.

In the final frame, Sheffield put the game out of reach, starting with Simpson’s second goal at 44:50. A powerplay goal from Juusola and a penalty-shot hat-trick goal pushed the score to 9-3.

Dundee scored a consolation goal through Tsekos on the powerplay, but Sheffield capped the game with Sam Tremblay tipping in a perfect pass from Finley Ulrick, sealing a 10-4 win.

With a four-point gap now separating them from league leaders Belfast, the Steelers will focus on upcoming fixtures against Nottingham and Glasgow as they continue their push for the title.

First Period [2-4] – Steelers and Stars Trade Goals in Wild Opening Frame

The Sheffield Steelers wasted no time recovering from their shutout loss to Coventry Blaze, exploding for a high-scoring first period against the Dundee Stars on Sunday night. Both teams combined for six goals in a frantic 20 minutes, with the Steelers taking a 4-2 lead.

Sheffield wasted no time, opening the scoring just 28 seconds into the game. Mark Simpson found himself behind the Stars’ defense, and though Richard Sabol made the initial save, the rebound deflected off Simpson’s skate and into the net for the opening goal.

The Steelers dominated early, but Dundee responded on their first real chance at 5:04. Spencer Naas finished an odd-man rush with a goal past Matthew Greenfield, assisted by Brendan Harms.

Sheffield regained the lead just 44 seconds later through Marco Vallerand, who capitalized on a loose puck and fired it into the top shelf. Robert Dowd provided the assist.

The Steelers continued to apply pressure, with Simpson, Tremblay, and Shudra forcing a tiring Dundee defense into an icing call. That pressure paid off at 10:24, when Mikko Juusola powered through the slot and poked home a bouncing puck after a crucial faceoff win by Patrick Watling.

Colton Saucerman added another goal for Sheffield at 13:19, launching a slapshot from the blue line that beat Sabol, ending his scoring drought and celebrating with a “monkey off the back” gesture.

Despite Sheffield’s dominance, Dundee stayed within reach, scoring a late goal at 19:08. A scramble in front of Greenfield saw Sheffield struggle to clear, and Harms finished off the play to bring the Stars within two as the period ended.

The Steelers entered the second period with momentum, but Dundee had shown they wouldn’t go down without a fight.

Second Period [3-6] – Steelers Expand Their Lead in Action-Packed Middle Frame

The Steelers continued to assert their dominance in the second period, outscoring the Stars 2-1 to build a commanding three-goal lead heading into the final frame. Despite Dundee’s early push, Sheffield’s clinical finishing proved to be the difference.

Dundee came out strong in the second, putting pressure on Sheffield’s defense. However, it was Sheffield who struck first at 25:52. Mikko Juusola’s speed created space on the right wing, setting up Brien Diffley, who rifled a shot into the top corner to make it 5-2.
