Are the Eagles considering a move for Myles Garrett?

Will the Eagles Pursue Myles Garrett?

Four weeks ago, Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett expressed his clear desire to leave Cleveland. With the league year set to begin in just nine days, the question remains: Will the Browns honor his request?

If they do, where will he end up? Garrett is seeking a move to a contender. Recently, Dianna Russini from TheAthletic.com reported that the Eagles’ interest in Garrett is “legitimate.”

Making such a move would be a bold decision for G.M. Howie Roseman and owner Jeffrey Lurie, who would undoubtedly have the final say on such a daring trade. It would require substantial trade compensation, especially since this year’s first-round pick is near the bottom of the round and next year’s pick likely will be too. It would also likely prevent the Eagles from retaining several key contributors from their Super Bowl LIX championship team.

However, it could provide the Eagles with a much-needed jolt to avoid complacency heading into 2025.

One of the toughest challenges for any team that wins it all is avoiding a letdown when trying to climb the same mountain again. Aside from a shorter offseason, the target on their backs is bigger, the climb steeper, and the reward is all too familiar. Teams hoping to turn one championship into two can benefit from adding a veteran player who has yet to reach the top.

Enter Garrett. In addition to boosting the Eagles’ production (he’s the first player in league history with four consecutive seasons of 14 or more sacks) and creating overall chaos on defense, his hunger for a Super Bowl ring could offer his new teammates a shared goal beyond just another championship for themselves.

Another possibility, as Chris Simms pointed out on Monday’s PFT Live, is that the Eagles might be helping the Browns (and former Eagles V.P. of football operations Andrew Berry) by inflating Garrett’s trade market, especially if the Browns decide that keeping a player who doesn’t want to be there could cause turmoil within the franchise.

If a trade is to happen, the most logical window would be between now and the first round of the draft. Should the Eagles be seriously considering a move for Garrett, other teams may also become more motivated to pursue him — particularly if the goal is to prevent the champions from adding a key player that could help the most talented team in football secure another title, possibly even a second one in a row.
