Los Angeles Lakers Forward LeBron James Named Western Conference Player of the Month
The NBA has honored Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James with the Western Conference Player of the Month award at the age of 40.
James earned the award after leading the Lakers to a 10-2 record in February, averaging 29 points, 10.5 rebounds, and nearly 7 assists in 11 games. During this stretch, James helped the Lakers overcome injuries, Luka Doncic’s return to game shape, and a lack of frontcourt depth, securing the second seed in the West with a 38-21 record.
LeBron set another milestone as the oldest player ever to win Player of the Month in NBA history. At 40, no player before him has accomplished this feat. Despite playing in his 21st NBA season, James is defying age by delivering one of his most impressive seasons while guiding the Lakers toward the playoffs.
Drafted at 18, James is currently averaging close to 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists, shooting nearly 52% from the field. This level of performance is unheard of for a player his age, especially considering he’s been in the NBA longer than he hasn’t.
The Lakers have found new life after a rocky first half of the season. Under first-year head coach JJ Redick, the team adjusted to a shocking blockbuster trade that sent Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks and brought Luka Doncic to Los Angeles. Despite losing their best defender in Davis, the Lakers have maintained elite defense and outperformed opponents with their new superstar duo.
James and the Lakers aim to carry their momentum into March, fighting to lock down the second seed in the Western Conference. The Lakers are in a tight race with the Denver Nuggets, with only two games separating the second and fifth seeds.
The Lakers will face the New Orleans Pelicans on March 4th, seeking their seventh straight win. Both LeBron and Luka are expected to play as they build chemistry before the playoffs. LeBron is just one point away from becoming the first player in NBA history to reach 50,000 career points.
