On their way to Miami, the Savannah Bananas baseball team made a quick stop Thursday at Hammock Landing Mall in West Melbourne for coffee, shopping, and lunch.
Hammock Landing, located at 205 Palm Bay Road NE, features popular spots like Marshall’s, Planet Smoothie, Buffalo Wild Wings, and more.
What exactly are the Savannah Bananas?
The Savannah Bananas are a show-style baseball team from Savannah, Georgia. Known for fun and entertainment — much like the Harlem Globetrotters — they’ve gained a strong fan base with families and baseball lovers.
Their owner is famous for his bright yellow tuxedo, and the team includes a senior dance crew, a Dad Bod performance squad, and even a dancing umpire.
They play “Banana Ball,” their fast-paced twist on baseball, filled with dancing, music, games, and audience involvement. While Savannah hosts their home games, they also take their antics across the country during a “world tour.”
Where are they going next, and how can you catch a Savannah Bananas game?
The Bananas face the Party Animals this weekend in Miami at loanDepot Park, with sold-out games on Saturday and Sunday. After Miami, they’ll play in Tampa at Raymond James Stadium on March 15.
Tickets are tough to snag — fans must enter a lottery system, but entering doesn’t guarantee a chance to purchase. If chosen, winners get a window of time to buy tickets.
How the team got started
In October 2015, Jesse and Emily Cole launched a minor league team to make baseball fun again and bring fans back to Historic Grayson Stadium.
They originally played in the Coastal Plain League, a collegiate summer league, for seven seasons before leaving in 2022 to play “Banana Ball” full-time. Now, they operate two independent pro teams — the Savannah Bananas and the Party Animals.
MLB stars like Jonny Gomes, Bill Lee, and Josh Reddick have all taken the field with the Bananas.
