WVU Introduces New Men’s Basketball Season Ticket Structure
West Virginia University has unveiled a revamped seating model for men’s basketball that simplifies and makes the process of purchasing season tickets more equitable, aligning it with the football season ticket structure. Members of the Mountaineer Athletic Club (MAC) will experience increased transparency when making decisions related to parking, annual benefits, and season tickets.
The per-seat contribution will now be integrated with other donations to West Virginia Athletics, including those made to the Country Roads Trust. This combined amount will determine the MAC membership level, which influences your priority ranking for selecting seating and parking.
Fans can visit the dedicated landing page HERE for full details on the new season ticket structure for the 2025-26 season and beyond. The page includes comprehensive information about the new model, a pricing calculator, and a FAQ section to help with planning.
Under the new plan, 30% of season ticket holders will see no increase, or even a reduction in their costs, while 50% will face a cost increase of less than $250.
For fans looking to purchase new tickets at the “get-in” price, a 25% reduction in season ticket costs will be available in select sections of the Coliseum, and 45% of upper-level seats will not require a per-seat contribution to the MAC. The new model aims to expand access to tickets by strengthening ties with loyal fans and inviting the next generation of Mountaineers.
“Collegiate athletics is undergoing the most transformational period in its history. As we adapt to these shifts, the need for innovation, strategic planning, and sustainable revenue generation has never been greater,” said Wren Baker, WVU Vice President and Director of Athletics.
With extensive research backing this change, the new structure aligns WVU with most Power 4 schools already implementing or planning similar models. The objective is to offer fair and affordable ticket options while improving access to prime seating areas.
To help guide fans through this transition, WVU will provide several resources:
A per-seat season ticket model landing page with complete details, including a customizable calculator, timeline, and a FAQ section.
MAC and Mountaineer Ticket Sales and Service Account Managers are available for one-on-one discussions, which can be scheduled HERE.
Current season ticket holders and MAC members will receive additional information through the season ticket renewal mailing in the upcoming months.
For the 2026-27 men’s basketball season, WVU will implement a seat adjustment, allowing season ticket holders to choose options that best fit their needs within the updated pricing structure. Rankings will be finalized on May 1, 2026, based on the priority point system, determining the seating and parking selection order. More details about this process will be shared in the coming months.
The landscape of Power 4 athletics is evolving rapidly, driven by new revenue needs, changing governance, and greater focus on athlete support and NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) opportunities. As programs compete for top talent and resources in a high-stakes environment, WVU must adapt to meet these financial challenges to stay competitive on the national stage. This evolution necessitates the creation of sustainable financial models to thrive in the demanding world of college sports.
