Following his initial seven years with the Lions, punter Sam Martin is now relocating for the third occasion since departing Detroit in 2020.
The Buffalo Bills announced on Thursday that Martin was let go. He will soon be able to join a new team when free agency begins later this month.
Martin had one year remaining and $1.9 million on his contract.
The release concludes a three-year tenure for Martin in Buffalo during which he averaged 46.7 yards per punt. In 2024, Martin placed 25 of his 54 punts within the 20-yard line, including five touchbacks.
Prior to that, he dedicated two years in Denver after seven in Detroit to launch his NFL career
