I’m not great at this, but I have to try. Many of you knew Andy Isaac, a man with infectious humor and love for life. His kindness, empathy, and emotional intelligence drew people to him.
On social media, he made us laugh, and in person, he cared deeply about others.
Isaac had a gift for connecting with those who were struggling. He’d check in regularly, invite us to grab burgers or shawarma, and engage in tough conversations when needed.
My friends and I became close with Isaac over the years, and he never shied away from discussing sensitive topics.
Despite his own health struggles, including years of treatment and clinical trials, Isaac remained positive.
He had a superpower – staying upbeat despite adversity. Even on Twitter, he’d counter our complaints about social media with, “Guys, social media is what you make it.”
His “Tell me something positive” threads were a testament to his optimism.
During a recent visit while Isaac was in hospice care, we talked about my dogs, including On slow, a beagle-mix I’d rescued.
Isaac’s eyes welled up with tears, showing his compassion for all living beings. That was Isaac – he loved everyone, including my furry friends.
On slow, coincidentally, had also been battling cancer and passed away just a week before Isaac.
Animals, it seems, can sense genuine souls. I could share more stories about Isaac, but simply put, he was one of the best people I’ve ever met, and I’m honored to call him a friend.
The photo above was taken when the Lions beat the Rams in the 2023 NFL playoffs. I’m grateful to Sweta for convincing Isaac to attend.
I love you, brother. I hope you and On slow are enjoying burgers and watching the Pistons playoff push. Give On a burger bite from me, and tell him I miss him. I’ll see you both again someday.
