Big 12 Shifts WVU-BYU Game to Friday Night for Enhanced Primetime Coverage

Big 12 Moves WVU-BYU to Friday Night for Expanded Primetime Slate

The Mountaineers’ visit to Provo is part of 10 Big 12 games shifting to Friday nights for increased TV coverage.

The Big 12 has unveiled a lineup of Friday night football games for the 2025 season, including West Virginia’s road game against BYU on October 3. A total of 10 Big 12 matchups will be moved to Friday nights, with ESPN and Fox choosing the games to air in prime-time slots.

This scheduling change is part of the conference’s strategy to enhance national visibility during key time slots. WVU’s game in Provo is one of four Big 12-only contests taking place on Friday nights, alongside matchups like Utah at Kansas (Nov. 28) and Houston at UCF (Nov. 7). Non-conference games, including Baylor hosting Auburn and Colorado facing Georgia Tech, will also be highlighted.

For West Virginia, this shift means a quicker turnaround following the previous week’s game against Utah, which will be the first-ever visit from the Utes. The BYU game will mark WVU’s first Friday night conference game since joining the Big 12 in 2012.
