GAME 1 | BYU 5, Stetson 4

PROVO, UT – Stetson mounted a comeback, scoring three runs in the ninth inning, but ultimately lost 5-4 to BYU in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader at Miller Park.

Sophomore Zane Coppersmith, who entered in relief, was tagged with the loss. Senior Jonathan Gonzalez pitched effectively in the start, going 6.1 innings and allowing two earned runs on six hits, with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Down 2-0, Stetson broke through in the eighth as sophomore Juan De La Cruz scored the team’s first run. The Hatters took a 4-2 lead in the ninth, sparked by a two-RBI double from sophomore Nelphie Lopez and a sacrifice fly by De La Cruz. However, BYU answered with three runs in the bottom of the ninth to claim the victory.

Junior Jordan Taylor led Stetson offensively, going 3-for-4 with a double.

GAME 2 | BYU 7, Stetson 5

PROVO, UT – The Hatters held a 5-2 advantage heading into the eighth inning but couldn’t hold onto the lead, falling 7-5 to BYU in the second game of the doubleheader.

Junior Mason Davenport took the loss, giving up four runs (one earned) on three hits over four innings of relief. Turner Spoljaric started but did not factor into the decision, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing two earned runs.

Jordan Taylor again led the offense, blasting a grand slam for his third home run of the season and driving in four RBIs. Junior Landon Moran finished 1-for-3 with two walks and an RBI, while junior Lorenzo Meola added two hits and a walk.

Once again, Stetson couldn’t hold its lead, as BYU scored six runs in the final six innings to secure the 7-5 win.
