Lakers’ LeBron James set to miss 1-2 weeks with groin injury

LeBron James sustained a groin strain in the fourth quarter of the Los Angeles Lakers’ matchup against the Boston Celtics, forcing him to exit the game. Now, a potential recovery timeline has emerged regarding how long James might be out, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.

“Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is anticipated to be sidelined for at least 1-to-2 weeks due to a groin strain, sources inform ESPN. James will allow the injury to settle over the next 24 hours before undergoing another assessment,” Charania shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Initially, there were concerns that James might be out for weeks rather than days, meaning the Lakers must now adjust to playing without one of their top players for a period of time.

James has dealt with a groin injury before, during his debut season with the Lakers, which caused him to miss 17 games. However, unlike that instance, he did not feel a pop when playing against the Celtics, according to Charania.

“LeBron James stated that his thoughts immediately went back to his Christmas Day 2018 groin injury when he felt a pop and missed a significant stretch. James believes this injury is not as severe as that one, and he knocked on the wooden locker behind him to avoid jinxing it,” ESPN’s Dave McMenamin wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The Lakers have been among the league’s hottest teams recently, climbing to third place in the Western Conference. With James out, all eyes turn to Luka Doncic, who has the talent to lead the team with his play. Other teammates will also need to elevate their performances, but Doncic has already proven that he can carry a team to victories on his own.

While the hope is that James won’t miss more time than projected, this rest period could ultimately benefit him if the Lakers aim for a deep playoff push.
