Luka Doncic Insists He’s Fine Amid LeBron James’ Injury Setback for Lakers

Luka Doncic says he’s fine despite back issues, prepared to lead Lakers as LeBron James recovers

Luka Doncic has dismissed worries about his persistent back problems, assuring fans that he is fully ready to lead the Los Angeles Lakers in LeBron James’ absence. The Lakers’ playoff hopes took a major hit when James suffered a groin injury during their 111-101 defeat to the Boston Celtics.

Although the 40-year-old superstar has downplayed the seriousness of his injury, missing several games appears unavoidable. With just 20 games remaining in the season, the Lakers are relying on Doncic to guide them through this crucial period.

“I’m good.”

After the game, Doncic admitted he hasn’t been performing at his best but dismissed concerns about a significant injury. His prolonged stretching on the broadcast led to speculation about a back issue.

However, Doncic reassured reporters that his back has been sore since a hard fall in a previous game, but he remains committed to playing through it.

Meanwhile, LeBron James offered a positive update on his condition, saying he doesn’t believe this injury is as severe as the 2018 groin strain that sidelined him for 17 games.

James was delivering a strong performance, tallying 22 points, 14 rebounds, and nine assists before exiting the game. His injury occurred during a spin move against Jaylen Brown, where he felt discomfort upon landing.

The timing of LeBron’s injury couldn’t be worse for the Lakers, who were on an eight-game winning streak and closing in on the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference.

Now, with James sidelined and Doncic managing his own health concerns, Austin Reaves faces significant pressure to step up. Doncic stressed the importance of a “next-man-up” approach for the team to stay competitive.

While LeBron’s injury isn’t catastrophic, his absence will challenge the Lakers’ depth and Doncic’s ability to carry the team. Despite his back soreness, Doncic has made it clear that he has no intention of sitting out and will continue to lead.

With the Brooklyn Nets as their next opponent, the focus is on whether the Lakers can stay strong without their leader. Whether Doncic can handle the responsibility and keep the team in playoff contention remains uncertain, but he has no doubts about his ability to step up.
