Matthew Stafford ‘happy to be back’ with Rams

I’m thrilled to return,” Stafford shared Wednesday night, according to the Los Angeles Times.

T he 37-year-old quarterback agreed to a restructured contract, ensuring his stay in L.A. for the 2025 season. Coach Sean McVay recently acknowledged that the deal will likely be revisited in 2026, as the team and Stafford continue a year-by-year relationship.

Stafford declined to comment on recent talks, which included trade interest from the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders. His choice to remain with the Rams is expected to have a ripple effect on the quarterback market as free agency approaches next week.

Earlier, Rams GM Les Snead referred to Stafford’s return as “a renewal of vows” — a phrase that others have also used for the deal.

Stafford laughed at Snead’s wording: “Les is a man of interesting words. I love Les. He can say whatever he wants. I just know I’m thrilled to return.”

Stafford made the remarks after he and his wife, Kelly, announced they’d be donating jerseys and equipment to the Pasadena High School football team and a local youth program impacted by wildfires.

“It’s great to be a little part of their team now,” Stafford said. “Just happy to contribute, and it’s fun to be around young players who love the game and enjoy playing together.”

In his four seasons in L.A., Stafford has guided the Rams to the playoffs three times, including a Super Bowl win. With a growing roster and several young players primed for breakout seasons, expectations in Los Angeles are high for another deep postseason run in 2025.
