BYU Recruits AJ Dybantsa and Xavion Staton to Compete in The Grind Session This Weekend
Salt Lake City will host some of the nation’s top high school talent this weekend, featuring several of BYU basketball’s most anticipated recruits.
The top high school basketball players in the country will take the court in Salt Lake City this weekend for the Grind Session High School Basketball World Championships.
From Darryn Peterson to AJ Dybantsa, Xavion Staton to Niko Bundalo, some of the brightest stars and top prospects in the 2025 recruiting class will gather for a basketball spectacle in Utah. This event is shaping up to be as exciting as a showdown between Superman and Chuck Norris—no matter what you’re doing, you won’t want to miss it.
BYU basketball fans, take note! The future of BYU hoops is coming to your city this weekend. This is a must-see event—get out of your house and head to the games.
Twenty top 100-rated recruits will compete this weekend, with some standout names like three McDonald’s All-Americans: Dybantsa, Peterson, and Bundalo, who are ranked 1st, 2nd, and 28th, respectively, by ESPN.
Prolific Prep, who will play on Friday, features seven top-100 recruits from the next three recruiting classes. They are currently ranked the sixth-best high school team in the nation. Utah Prep also boasts four elite prospects, including Anthony Felisi, a standout athlete who visited BYU over the weekend.
As highlighted in the press release, this tournament has a long history of producing players who go on to play at the highest levels, with over 3,000 Grind Session alumni advancing to collegiate or professional basketball. Many of the athletes on the court this weekend will become household names in the coming years.

Round of 16 (Continued) – Saturday, March 15
1:30 p.m. – (8) Academy of Central FL vs. (9) Royal Crown School
3:15 p.m. – (3) Winston Salem Christian vs. (14) DME Wisconsin
5:00 p.m. – (4) DME Academy Florida vs. (13) Colorado Prep
6:45 p.m. – (5) Iowa United vs. (12) Huntington Expression Prep
8:30 p.m. – (5) Utah Prep vs. (11) The Fort
The quarterfinals will begin on Sunday, March 16 at 11:00 a.m., 12:45 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 4:15 p.m.
The semifinal and championship rounds will be played in Lawrence, Kansas.
Tickets are available at the door or in advance, priced at $15 for the day. Children aged six and under can attend for free.
