Will Harris, a former third-round pick by the Detroit Lions, has secured a two-year contract with the rising Washington Commanders.
Harris spent the first five years of his career with the Lions, starting 40 games and playing in 81. During his time in Detroit, he transitioned from safety to cornerback. Last season, Harris played with the New Orleans Saints, starting 13 games before a hamstring injury ended his season prematurely.
While with the Saints, Harris played various roles in the defensive backfield, including 113 snaps at slot corner, 352 at safety, 257 in the box, and 112 snaps on the defensive line. He registered 74 tackles, three for loss, and one interception.
NFL Network reports Harris’ deal is worth $8 million, with the potential to reach $10 million based on incentives.
It’s been an eventful day for safeties connected to the Lions.
Ifeatu Melifonwu is leaving Detroit for a one-year, $4 million deal with the Miami Dolphins. C.J. Gardner-Johnson is on the move again, this time traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Houston Texans for former first-round pick Kenyon Green.
The Lions’ latest moves include re-signing offensive lineman Dan Skipper and defensive lineman Myles Adams. They also added starting cornerback D.J. Reed in their biggest move of the week, while re-signing edge rusher Marcus Davenport and releasing veteran Za’Darius Smith.
