Lions Player Admits Detroit Was the Last Team He Wanted to Join Before the Draft.

The 2021 NFL Draft was a huge success for the Detroit Lions. Their draft class included two All-Pros, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and several other players who have made significant contributions over the past few seasons. Derrick Barnes, Levi Onwuzurike, Alim McNeil, and Ifeatu Melifonwu were also part of that class.

However, it turns out that one of the stars didn’t actually want to end up with the Lions. On a recent episode of the “St. Brown Podcast,” St. Brown revealed he told his brother that Detroit was the one team he didn’t want to be drafted by before the selection.

“The one team I told my brother, 20 minutes before I got drafted, I said the one team I don’t want to go to is Detroit.” Although it wasn’t his preferred destination at the time, being drafted by the Lions has worked out well for St. Brown.

In his four years in Detroit, he has accumulated 430 catches for 4,851 yards and 33 touchdowns. Those stats have earned him three Pro Bowl selections and two consecutive All-Pro First Team honors.

He also secured a four-year contract extension worth over $120 million, keeping him in Detroit through 2028. The Lions’ organization has improved drastically since drafting St. Brown. The year before his draft, they won five games, and just three in his rookie season.

Last year, the Lions won 15 games, building a core of players that should keep them competitive for years to come. It’s a good thing they used that fourth-round pick on a receiver who didn’t want them to draft him.
