Boo Carter Already Making an Impact on Nico Iamaleava in Unexpected Way
This offseason, defensive back Boo Carter briefly considered leaving the Tennessee Vols, which caused some concern among fans. Fortunately, he and head coach Josh Heupel were able to find common ground, and Carter is now set to make a different kind of contribution in 2025.
Carter will be playing both ways, as he’s also taking on a role as a wide receiver during spring ball. This was Carter’s request, and the Vols are making it happen for him. He’s already making his presence felt. While he’s been showing off his reliable hands, it’s actually his trash talking that’s been catching the attention of quarterback Nico Iamaleava. Wait, really?
Boo Carter’s Trash Talk is Energizing Nico Iamaleava and the Tennessee Offense
Carter is bringing a fresh kind of swagger to the offense, something the group has lacked. Iamaleava mentioned that players on that side of the ball typically aren’t known for being vocal, but Carter has quickly raised the energy level.
“It’s awesome, I think it definitely rubs off on a lot of our guys,” Iamaleava shared. “I wouldn’t say many of our guys are big talkers, so when he comes in, he probably brings that energy with him. It’s great having him around.”
At 5-11 and 195 pounds, Carter is working as a slot wide receiver for both the Vols and Heupel. In high school, he was dynamic on both sides of the ball. In his senior season, he racked up 911 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns, along with more than 100 tackles and two interceptions.
With his incredible speed, Carter is set to give opposing defensive backs a tough time throughout 2025. Ironically, he will also play a crucial role as a defensive back for Tim Banks. So far, his transition seems to be going smoothly, and Iamaleava is excited to be working alongside him.
