Lions Re-Sign DT Levi Onwuzurike to One-Year, $5.5 Million Deal at Start of 2025 League Year
The Detroit Lions are bringing back another player from Brad Holmes’ first draft class as general manager.
Defensive tackle Levi Onwuzurike has reportedly agreed to a one-year, $5.5 million contract to stay in Detroit for the 2025 season.
Onwuzurike joins Penei Sewell, Alim McNeill, Derrick Barnes, and Amon-Ra St. Brown as members of the 2021 draft class to sign a second contract with the team.
Onwuzurike showed significant improvement in his final season with the Lions after injuries hampered him through most of his first three years.
A second-round pick out of Washington in 2021, Onwuzurike played 16 games as a rookie but missed his entire second season due to a back injury.
Returning in 2023, Onwuzurike played in 10 games in a rotational role. His best season came in 2024, when he started 10 of 16 games and recorded 28 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble.
The Lions’ defensive line depth remains a question mark heading into 2025, particularly with Alim McNeill’s availability uncertain following the torn ACL he suffered in Week 15 against the Buffalo Bills.
McNeill, a third-round pick in 2021, secured a four-year, $97 million contract extension for his strong play.
Meanwhile, the Lions have DJ Reader under contract for another season and re-signed restricted free agent Myles Adams on a one-year deal. The team also signed nose tackle Roy Lopez to a one-year contract on Tuesday.
