Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers endured a 111-108 loss on Monday night against the 11th-seeded Brooklyn Nets at the Barclays Center. With several key rotational players (including 21-time All-Star LeBron James) sidelined, Doncic and Austin Reaves were expected to carry the scoring load.
Due to inefficient shooting from the duo (30.8% from Doncic and 21.4% from Reaves), Gabe Vincent led the Lakers in scoring with 24 points on 8-for-12 shooting and six three-pointers made.
Doncic, who was listed as questionable for the game due to back soreness, faced significant defensive attention. Midway through the game, he rolled his right ankle during a defensive play.
Although Doncic managed to walk off the injury and continue playing, he has since been placed on the injury report with a new designation related to the ankle issue.
Heading into Thursday’s road game against the Milwaukee Bucks, the Lakers announced that Doncic is questionable due to right ankle soreness.
While Dorian Finney-Smith is cleared from the injury report after missing the Brooklyn game with ankle soreness, Los Angeles will still be missing three starters: James (strained left groin), Jaxson Hayes (right knee contusion), and Rui Hachimura (left patellar tendinopathy). If Doncic is unable to play, the Lakers will be left with only one healthy starter in Reaves.
The Lakers are starting a stretch of six games in eight days on Thursday night. With 19 games remaining, the Lakers are one game behind the Denver Nuggets for the second seed in the Western Conference, including four matchups against Denver and the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder.
