“Hold that rock up, baby!” That’s how DK Metcalf shared the news of his engagement to Normani—eager to tell the world about their exciting moment.
On March 13, the NFL star Metcalf was speaking to reporters after his trade from the Seattle Seahawks to the Pittsburgh Steelers. “My family and her family were in Houston. It was my sister’s spring break, and I just thought it would be perfect to bring both families together for a big kumbaya and propose with the ring,” Metcalf explained. He revealed that the proposal to the pop star took place just one day earlier, on March 12. With Normani standing beside him, Metcalf joyfully asked her to hold up her engagement ring. In a video shared on social media, he proudly referred to her as his “beautiful fiancée.”
Normani was completely taken by surprise. “They got me good,” she said, flashing her ring finger while wearing a Steelers jersey.
Normani and Metcalf began publicly dating in July 2023 when they officially announced their relationship on Instagram. However, paparazzi photos had them together as early as June 2022, when they were seen dining at the popular celebrity spot Giorgio Baldi. Metcalf confirmed they had been introduced in 2020 by Ciara and Russell Wilson, his former teammate with the Seahawks. After the announcement, Ciara posted a heartwarming video on TikTok where the couples Facetimed to share the good news.
Metcalf also shared that he had planned to propose to Normani since last year, but scheduling issues delayed his plans. He told reporters that he wanted to “take an approach where a schedule couldn’t be a problem.”
So, how did he pop the question? “I began sending her flowers with a story, and the final letter in the flowers said, ‘Will you marry me?’ And she said yes.”
After the press conference, Normani and Metcalf posed with his new team helmet and his five-year, $150 million contract.
