Messi’s Stellar Return Sparks Optimism for Inter Miami, Argentine Ace Ready for MLS Challenge After Jamaica Performance

Inter Miami received a major boost as Lionel Messi reported feeling “very good” upon his return to action, marking his comeback with a goal against Cavalier.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner had missed three consecutive games due to concerns over muscle fatigue, with his playing time being carefully monitored. Once again, he started on the bench for Inter Miami’s CONCACAF Champions Cup match in Jamaica.

After Luis Suarez gave Inter Miami the lead with a penalty, Javier Mascherano introduced Messi in the 56th minute, to the excitement of the home crowd, many of whom had come to see the Argentine superstar as much as their own team.

Messi lived up to expectations, scoring two minutes into stoppage time to cap off a 4-0 aggregate victory, securing Inter Miami’s place in the quarter-finals. They will now face fellow MLS side LAFC in the next round.

Messi is expected to be back at full strength by then, ready to take on MLS opponents again. Speaking about his return, Mascherano explained the careful approach taken: “We knew Leo hadn’t played in the last three or four games. Of course, we wanted him on the field, but we had to find the right time to put him in. He felt very good, he scored, and the Jamaican fans got to see him, so it was a great night for everyone.”

Inter Miami now faces another tight schedule, which could mean Messi remains on the bench for Sunday’s match against Atlanta United. Soon after, he and several other international stars will depart to join their national teams for 2026 World Cup qualifying matches.
