Evaluating the Detroit Lions’ Early 2025 Free Agency Moves

The initial reactions to the Lions’ free agency moves have been mixed. Some fans remain confident in the team’s Super Bowl potential, while others are concerned about aggressive moves made by NFC rivals like the Rams and Commanders.

Following a 15-win season, expectations were high that GM Brad Holmes would aggressively pursue a premier edge rusher to address the team’s biggest need.

Though free agency is still unfolding, it appears the Lions may rely on the draft for pass-rushing help.

“How would I rate the Lions’ free agency overall? I’d give it a solid B. It’s not an A,” this analyst stated. “A young, affordable pass rusher who can generate 10+ sacks—like Trey Hendrickson—would have pushed this to an A+.

“But securing an elite edge rusher isn’t easy. Every other team is searching for the same thing,” the analyst continued. “The Cardinals likely outbid Detroit for Josh Sweat. Market prices for pass rushers are skyrocketing, making it difficult for the Lions to compete financially. Given the circumstances, I’d grade their free agency as a B.”

The latest episode of the ‘Lone Wolves’ podcast examines the Lions’ offseason improvements and discusses the additions of wide receiver Tim Patrick and tight end Kenny Yeboah.
