Massive Snowstorm at BYU Creates Stunning Baseball Scene
The faux fireplace on the videoboard was a nice touch!
While most college baseball teams would have to reschedule or cancel their games, BYU handles it differently. Miller Park was designed specifically for this kind of unpredictable weather.
The field is equipped with a cutting-edge heating and drainage system beneath the synthetic turf. This setup ensures extended practice time during the colder months. It also kept Sunday’s decisive game playable.
The snow-melting system can clear up to six inches of snow within an hour. The drainage system is capable of handling up to 19 inches of water in the same time frame. Although I’m no expert in heating or drainage, I’m amazed by how quickly it works. And it’s incredibly effective!
While the snow melted off the field, the Wasatch Mountains in the background remained snow-covered. Fortunately, as they create a stunning view.
Especially with the snow continuing to fall throughout the game.
It’s tough to imagine a better setting for college baseball—or any baseball, for that matter. BYU ultimately triumphed over UCF in the 10th inning, claiming the series after a two-hour snow delay. Baseball in true winter fashion!
