As in the previous summer transfer window, FC Barcelona is once again aiming to bolster their attacking options by signing a high-quality left winger in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Last year, the Blaugrana were heavily linked with Athletic Club’s winger Nico Williams. However, financial constraints and the player’s decision to remain at his current club ultimately prevented the transfer from materializing.
Despite this, the Catalan giants are still reportedly interested in securing his services in the next transfer window.
However, their pursuit has become more complicated as Fichajes reports that Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have now overtaken Barcelona in the race for Nico Williams.
The German club has already begun working on finalizing the signing of the Spanish winger and is prepared to activate his €58 million release clause to secure his arrival as quickly as possible.
Their objective is to have him available for Vincent Kompany next season, and they are eager to finalize an agreement swiftly to ward off competition from other interested clubs.
Previously, Barcelona was the frontrunner for Nico’s signature, making Bayern’s sudden progress unexpected. However, it is easy to see why they are keen on him—his speed, explosiveness, and vision have made him one of Spain’s most promising young forwards.
This potential transfer aligns with Bayern Munich’s strategy of reinforcing their squad with young talent that can provide long-term value. While Barcelona may still attempt to make an offer, Bayern’s swift action highlights how challenging it will be for the Catalan club to sign Nico.
