AP Top 25: BYU Maintains Position Ahead of NCAA Tournament
BYU basketball remained at No. 17 in this week’s AP Top 25 poll, maintaining the same ranking as last week.
The Cougars had a notable week leading up to the NCAA Tournament, defeating Iowa State, a nationally-ranked team, in the Big 12 Tournament Quarterfinals. However, they were defeated by No. 2 Houston in the Semifinals.
BYU is one of five teams from the Big 12 represented in this week’s AP Top 25, with the Cougars being the fourth-highest ranked team.
Entering the NCAA Tournament with a 24-9 record, BYU secured a No. 6 seed and will face No. 11 seed VCU Rams on Thursday in the first round.
VCU, champions of the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament, are receiving votes in this week’s poll. If the rankings extended to include those receiving votes, VCU would be positioned at No. 30.
This marks the fourth consecutive week that BYU has appeared in the AP Top 25. Since joining the Big 12 last year, this is the 20th week BYU has been ranked nationally.
