BYU Forward Kanon Catchings’ Injury Status for NCAA Tournament Revealed

Injury Update on BYU’s Kanon Catchings Ahead of VCU Game

Will BYU forward Kanon Catchings be available to play against VCU on Thursday in the NCAA Tournament?

The highly anticipated 6-foot-9 freshman has been sidelined since suffering a knee injury during a game against West Virginia on March 1. As a result, he has missed the last four games for BYU, who is set to face No. 11 seed VCU in Denver on Thursday afternoon.

BYU basketball head coach Kevin Young was asked about Catchings’ potential availability for the “Big Dance.”

Kanon Catchings Remains “Day to Day”

“He’s still day to day. He worked out today, so we’re trying to move him along,” Coach Young told reporters on Selection Sunday.

Earlier this month, Young mentioned that Catchings’ injury “wasn’t as severe as it initially seemed,” but the sharpshooting forward has yet to play since the injury.

Catchings has been coming off the bench since January 14, when Coach Young made changes to the starting lineup.

If Catchings is cleared to play, Young will have 11 players available for his rotation in the NCAA Tournament.

“As with any injury, we focus on what’s best for the athlete,” Young added on Sunday. “We’re always in touch with him and our training staff about how he’s feeling, and that’s where things stand with him.”
