The Lions quarterback continues to seek meaning in their string of painful postseason exits.
Everything has a purpos. Challenges build resilience. There are no failures, only lessons.
Some see these as clichés, while others find wisdom in them. On the Glue Guys Podcast, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff shared that he’s still trying to find the lessons behind the team’s Super Bowl dreams being crushed in consecutive seasons.
Podcast host and former NFL quarterback Alex Smith, who understands the highs and lows of professional sports, asked Goff if he’s had time to process it all—the Lions’ unexpected playoff exit this year and the NFC Championship defeat the year before.
“There’s still the grieving process going on,” Goff admitted. “It’s tough, man, and I wish there were an easier way to accept it. You keep waiting to understand the lesson. Maybe that takes a while, but eventually, it’ll make sense.”
As much as Lions fans feel the disappointment, the players undoubtedly replay those tough moments in their minds—perhaps daily—since their crushing loss in January.
“I didn’t play well enough to give us a chance to win, and had I played better, would we have won? I don’t know. Maybe. Probably, and that’s what keeps you up at night,” Goff admitted.
Yet, always the leader, the quarterback made it clear that this setback will only fuel their determination next season. Hopefully, these bitter memories will be erased when the Lions hoist the Lombardi Trophy in 2026.
The discussion also touches on Goff’s transition to Detroit, his bond with Dan Campbell, the Jared Goff chant, and more. You can watch the full episode below.
