Ex-Detroit Lions Quarterback Goes Viral for Catching Foul Ball

The Los Angeles Dodgers improved their record to 2-0 with a 6-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

Former Detroit Lions quarterback Rodney Peete is gaining attention online after catching a foul ball in the stands, preventing Dodgers third-baseman Max Muncy from making the play.

A viral video captures the ex-NFL quarterback reaching out with his glove and making the impressive grab.

Unfortunately for Muncy, he was also chasing the ball. The clip, shared by Fox Sports MLB, has already been viewed over 340,000 times.

The reigning World Series champion Dodgers swept both games in the Tokyo Series overseas.

The 2025 Tokyo Series featured two games between the Dodgers and Cubs to open the MLB season. The matchups took place in Tokyo, Japan, at the Tokyo Dome.

“It feels like a playoff environment, which is awesome,” said Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer. “Those are the butterflies you want, and that’s the energy you want. Nothing matches the postseason, where every pitch matters.”

Peete was the Lions’ quarterback from 1989-1993 after being drafted in the sixth round in 1989.

His NFL career ended in 2004 with the Carolina Panthers.

Peete’s career totals include 16,338 passing yards, 76 touchdowns, and 92 interceptions.

Shohei Ohtani launched his first home run of 2025, blasting a 99.1 mph fastball off Cubs reliever Nate Pearson.
