Netflix’s popular Quarterback series is returning with a new season debuting in July. Naturally, this is relevant to the Detroit Lions, as Jared Goff is one of the three quarterbacks featured this season.
Lions fans are already familiar with the team appearing on a Netflix show, as Amon-Ra St. Brown was part of Receiver last year. That season ended with the Lions making the NFC Championship Game, where they built a 24-7 lead over the San Francisco 49ers, only to see the Niners battle back and win 34-31, earning a Super Bowl trip.
Since Detroit came so close to the Super Bowl, it makes sense that Goff decided this was the right year to be on Quarterback. When the team’s Super Bowl odds have never been higher, why not participate?
Unfortunately, while the Lions dominated the regular season with a 15-2 record and secured the No. 1 seed, they were eliminated in the playoffs by the up-and-coming Washington Commanders. Goff struggled in the game, throwing three interceptions.
Most of the series will be enjoyable as it highlights the Lions’ magical season, but like with Receiver, the final episodes may be tough for fans to relive.
Joining Goff in Quarterback season two are Joe Burrow of the Bengals and Kirk Cousins of the Falcons. Of the three, Goff was the only one to lead his team to the playoffs, while Burrow’s Bengals had an explosive offense but finished 9-8, and Cousins was benched for rookie Michael Penix Jr..
This marks Cousins’ second time on the show, though he previously appeared while playing for the Vikings. Coincidentally, season one also featured a Falcons quarterback, Marcus Mariota, who, like Cousins, was later benched for a rookie signal-caller.
Lions fans will enjoy most of the season, but those last few episodes might be painful to watch.
