Lions’ Bold Rule Change Proposal Proves Their Fear of the Bears

They string together a couple of good seasons after roughly 150 straight miserable ones and suddenly act like they own the league. It’s worth mentioning that despite this so-called Lions resurgence, they have yet to win—or even reach—a Super Bowl, but that’s beside the point.

Detroit is officially in panic mode, and their latest move might be the most hilarious example yet. Teams across the league are submitting rule change proposals for next season, and most of them are pretty standard: adjustments to overtime, potentially banning the Tush Push (lol), and so on.

But the Lions? They went off the deep end. According to multiple reports—your favorite NFL insider has probably already tweeted about it—the Lions want playoff seeding based purely on record, rather than division winners getting priority.

“A major one: The Lions have proposed a postseason format that allows Wild Card teams to be seeded above division champions if their regular season record is superior,”

“Under Detroit’s plan, the team with the best record secures the No. 1 seed and a bye, while seeds 2-7 are determined strictly by record. If this rule had been in place last season, the Lions would have been the No. 1 seed, and the Vikings—who had 14 wins but dropped to No. 5—would have avoided that fate.”

This just confirms what we all suspected: they’re terrified. The Lions are shaking at the thought of a Bears offensive line featuring Jonah Jackson, Joe Thuney, and Drew Dalman.

They caught a glimpse of the Caleb Williams-Rome Odunze connection and immediately freaked out. They know exactly how dangerous Ben Johnson is and are currently spiraling. (Also, it’s not exactly shocking that after losing a home playoff game to a 12-win team, their first move was to throw a tantrum.)

There’s no other logical reason for them to propose this. The whole thing reeks of desperation—they’ve been rattled, and now everyone knows it. This can only mean one thing: The Bears are officially back.
