LeBron James Acknowledges Cavaliers Link to Iona’s Latest Coaching Hire.

The Gaels are bringing an NBA influence to their program through Geriot.

For the past 10 seasons, he’s coached with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the New Orleans Pelicans, spending nine of those years with the Cavs before joining the Pelicans. This marks Geriot’s first college head coaching position, and he shared his excitement for the opportunity in a school press release.

“I am grateful for this opportunity and excited to get to work,” Geriot stated in the release. “Iona has a strong basketball tradition and history of success, and I look forward to being part of it. Our goal is to build a team that plays hard, competes at the highest level, and makes our fans proud. I can’t wait to get started.”

Though Geriot has limited head coaching experience, he previously led the Canton Charge of the NBA G-League from 2021 to 2022. He also has a background in college basketball.

Geriot served as an assistant coach at Campbell from 2013 to 2015, and started his collegiate career at Princeton, where he worked from 2011 to 2013.

As a player, Geriot competed in March Madness. He played for Richmond University from 2006 to 2011, including being part of their Sweet 16 team in 2011.

In addition to Geriot’s hire, Iona plans to introduce a new general manager position, as revealed by school president Seamus Carey.
