The Detroit Lions took another step to reinforce their secondary on Thursday by re-signing cornerback Khalil Dorsey.
Dorsey’s return was announced just hours after the team signed veteran free-agent cornerback Rock Ya-Sin, who most recently played for the San Francisco 49ers.
After brief stints with the Baltimore Ravens and New York Giants, the 26-year-old Dorsey has settled in Detroit. While he provides depth at cornerback, his biggest impact comes on special teams.
In the 2023 season, Dorsey played 248 special teams snaps over 13 games. His role expanded last season, seeing a career-high 73 defensive snaps and 272 on special teams. He finished with 14 tackles, two passes defended, and four kick returns for 159 yards.
Unfortunately for both Dorsey and the Lions, his 2024 season ended early due to injury. During a Week 15 loss to the Buffalo Bills, he suffered a severe ankle injury that required him to be carted off the field.
With Dorsey and Ya-Sin now in the mix, the Lions have seven cornerbacks under contract, including new addition D.J. Reed, as well as Terrion Arnold, Ennis Rakestraw, Amik Robertson, and Stantley Thomas-Oliver.
