The Detroit Lions boast a formidable roster. Despite falling to the rising Washington Commanders in the divisional round last January, they were widely projected as Super Bowl favorites entering the season and should stay among the top contenders in 2025.
Regardless of talent, no team should become complacent. Quarterback Jared Goff struggled in that playoff loss, and while the Lions already feature two star receivers in Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, adding another weapon would be beneficial.
In its latest mock draft, CBS Sports predicts the team will select Missouri Tigers receiver Luther Burden III with the 28th overall pick.
“Don’t let Burden’s 2024 stats fool you—he’s a premier receiver prospect with upside galore,” wrote Chris Trapasso.
Burden recorded 61 receptions for 676 yards and six touchdowns in 2024, following an impressive 86 catches, 1,212 yards, and nine touchdowns the year prior. Over three college seasons, he amassed 2,263 receiving yards and 25 total touchdowns.
He showcased solid speed with a 4.41-second 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine, while an NFL.com report highlighted his “five-star athleticism and playmaking ability” along with “multifaceted run-after-catch talent.”
Detroit led the NFL in both points scored (564) and first downs (410) last season. Adding Burden could make their offense even more explosive once he adjusts to the pro level.
