The Los Angeles Lakers are shaping up to be a strong NBA Finals contender. After making a blockbuster trade to acquire Luka Dončić from the Dallas Mavericks, they are undoubtedly a team to keep an eye on. With a 43-26 record, they currently sit as the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference. The Lakers boast a deep roster, but they could be in for some major changes before the playoffs. According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, who covers the Lakers, significant roster adjustments might be coming soon.
Because Jordan Goodwin is on a two-way contract, the Lakers will need to convert his deal into a full roster spot if they want to keep him. The same situation applies to Christian Koloko and Trey Jemison. Buha named a few players who could be on their way out to make room. “The two most obvious candidates to be cut are Cam Reddish and Alex Len,” Buha stated. He also noted that Shake Milton’s non-guaranteed contract could be a valuable trade asset. Meanwhile, Markieff Morris is highly respected in the locker room, with both LeBron James and Luka Dončić valuing his leadership.
Buha further explained the potential moves, saying, “The roster will likely remain unchanged except for possibly waiving Len and Reddish. One of them has to go to keep Goodwin, and I think another should be waived to retain Jemison and Koloko. But I don’t see an obvious third cut.” This could be a tough situation for Reddish and Len, especially since Len turned down an offer from the Indiana Pacers to join the Lakers.
Keeping Goodwin should be a priority, and Koloko has shown promise as a solid role player. Unfortunately, Reddish and Len might not get the chance to prove themselves in Los Angeles, as their time with the team could be ending just before the NBA Playoffs.
