The Detroit Lions had an unforgettable 2024 season. It might sound unusual, but last year was the best in franchise history. Detroit won 15 games, secured its second straight NFC North title, and earned the NFC’s No. 1 seed for the first time ever.
Now, the Lions must rebuild their weakened defense to push for another deep playoff run in 2025.
Detroit started strong in NFL free agency, signing cornerback DJ Reed from the Jets on a three-year, $48 million deal, a bargain compared to Carlton Davis III’s $60 million contract with the Patriots.
The Lions also bolstered their secondary by adding Rock Ya-Sin and Avonte Maddox to the cornerback group.
Beyond the secondary, Detroit reinforced both sides of the ball by re-signing Derrick Barnes, Levi Onwuzurike, Dan Skipper, and Marcus Davenport. They also brought in external help like defensive tackle Roy Lopez.
With these moves, the Lions now have the flexibility to use their draft picks however they see fit in the 2025 NFL Draft.
