BYU Basketball: Marriott Center to Host Sweet 16 Viewing Party
BYU basketball fans have another opportunity to experience the excitement of Marriott Center this season.
Fans who can’t make it to Newark, New Jersey, for BYU’s Sweet 16 game against Alabama can still watch the action at the Marriott Center.
BYU Basketball Watch Party at Marriott Center
BYU announced that the Marriott Center will open its doors on Thursday night for a watch party.
The Cougars are preparing for their first Sweet 16 appearance since 2011, when Jimmer Fredette led the team. It’s been 14 years since BYU made it to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament, so they’re inviting fans to gather at the Marriott Center for the game.
The BYU vs. Alabama game tips off Thursday at 5:09 p.m. (MDT). The Marriott Center will open at 4 p.m., and fans should enter through Portals F to L.
The watch party is free to attend and open to the public.
This marks the first watch party at the Marriott Center for a BYU sporting event since the women’s soccer team’s National Championship match against Florida State in 2021.
Sweet 16 Showdown
BYU enters the Sweet 16 after earning two impressive victories last week in Denver over VCU and No. 3 seed Wisconsin.
The Cougars have won 11 of their last 12 games, with their only loss coming to the top-ranked Houston team two weeks ago in the Big 12 Tournament.
Since the NCAA Tournament began seeding teams in 1979, this is BYU’s third Sweet 16 appearance. They have a 1-1 record in previous Sweet 16 matchups, which occurred in 1981 and 2011.
If BYU beats Alabama on Thursday, they will advance to the Elite 8 for the first time since 1981.
