Russell Westbrook made history as a point guard during the Nuggets’ game against the Bulls.

The Denver Nuggets are working hard to keep pace with the Houston Rockets for the two-seed in the Western Conference, a goal helped by their big win over the Rockets on Sunday night. However, on Monday night, the Nuggets are back in action, facing the Chicago Bulls on the second night of a back-to-back, with Russell Westbrook expected to bring his usual spark off the bench once again, especially with Nikola Jokic and Aaron Gordon sidelined.

Westbrook has continued to provide his trademark energy, and in doing so, he moved up the all-time NBA scoring list. He entered the game just two points behind Kevin Garnett and quickly surpassed him, as he already had 12 points at the time of writing. This moved him to 20th on the all-time scoring list, making him just the second point guard in history to achieve this milestone, as noted by StatMamba on X (formerly Twitter).

The other player considered a point guard in this context is Oscar Robertson, the player most frequently compared to Westbrook due to his ability to fill the stat sheet. However, one could argue that Westbrook is the third player to join the top-20 in scoring, as James Harden has also played as a point guard for much of his career.

Still, it’s an impressive achievement for Westbrook to enter the top-20, especially given that many had written him off as a player on the decline, no longer able to make a significant impact in the NBA. But the veteran guard and former MVP has remained a key player for the Nuggets all season, while also climbing the all-time scoring ranks.
