Lions Could Land All-Pro Pass Rusher to Team Up with Aidan Hutchinson, Per Analyst

The Lions will add an edge rusher—it’s just a matter of when and how. With so much discussion about getting Aidan Hutchinson some help, it feels inevitable. Whether through a creative offseason signing or a bold draft move, GM Brad Holmes is bound to make a splash.

If he’s still brainstorming, Bleacher Report has a straightforward solution: trade for the best edge rusher available.

In their piece, 1 Trade Each NFL Contender Should Consider to Fill Biggest Weakness, they suggest Detroit target Bengals pass rusher Trey Hendrickson. He’s in a contract dispute with Cincinnati and, according to reports, may want out. Their reasoning? Logical, if overly long-winded.

“Hendrickson, last season’s sack leader, has watched the Bengals prioritize Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase’s contracts. Cincinnati isn’t eager to move him, but negotiations remain uncertain…

The Lions should try to do what other teams haven’t and land Hendrickson. Pairing him with Hutchinson would create a top-tier pass-rushing duo… A rookie might offer similar impact at a lower cost, but Hendrickson is a proven force, and Detroit still has $35.4 million in cap space.”

Just trade for an elite defender! Why hasn’t Holmes thought of that? To B/R’s credit, it’s a solid, if unoriginal, idea. But that’s fine—sometimes the best move is obvious. If Detroit pulls it off, just remember where you heard it first.
