NFC North teams sign major free agents, but Packers remain patient in free agency.

As the 2025 NFL free agency period unfolds, NFC North teams have exhibited varying levels of activity in bolstering their rosters.

Chicago Bears

The Bears have been proactive, notably signing defensive lineman Dayo Odeyingbo. This acquisition not only strengthens their defense but also reportedly thwarted the Green Bay Packers’ interest in Odeyingbo.

Detroit Lions

The Lions secured defensive tackle Levi Onwuzurike with a one-year, $4 million contract. Pro Football Focus recognized this as one of the top five value signings in 2025 free agency, highlighting Onwuzurike’s impressive 47 quarterback pressures and a 70.2 overall grade from the previous season.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings addressed multiple roster needs by adding defensive linemen Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave, bolstering their defensive front. They also enhanced their offensive line with the additions of Will Fries and Ryan Kelly. Additionally, the team retained cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. and running back Aaron Jones Sr., and acquired running back Jordan Mason through a trade with the San Francisco 49ers.

Green Bay Packers

In contrast, the Packers have taken a more measured approach. Their most notable move thus far has been signing offensive guard Aaron Banks from the San Francisco 49ers. This deliberate strategy suggests the Packers may be focusing on the upcoming draft or exploring other avenues to strengthen their roster.

As the free agency period continues, it remains to be seen how these strategies will impact the NFC North’s competitive landscape in the forthcoming season.
