Penn State’s Beaver Stadium Appears Drastically Different Due to Ongoing Renovations

Penn State’s Beaver Stadium Looks Unrecognizable Amid Ongoing Renovations

Beaver Stadium, home to the Penn State Nittany Lions football team, is one of the most iconic stadiums in college football. However, recent renovations, including the removal of the press box and several seats on the stadium’s west side, have drastically altered its appearance, making the legendary venue nearly unrecognizable.

With a seating capacity of 107,000, the stadium is the second-largest in college football, trailing only Michigan’s Big House. The Nittany Lions are often praised for having one of the most electric atmospheres in the sport. As spring practice approaches, reporters were allowed to enter the newly altered stadium to witness the changes.

Beaver Stadium’s Revamp Is Part Of $700 Million Renovation Project

Seth Engle of StateCollege.com shared an image from inside the stadium, which left fans shocked. Penn State has revealed plans to set up a temporary press box and additional seating as part of a larger $700 million renovation project. During the renovations, the stadium’s capacity will be affected, though the university has assured fans that it does not expect the attendance to fall below 100,000 at any point.

Additionally, the university recently received a $50 million donation from alumnus B.J. Werzyn, which will be used to rename the field at Beaver Stadium after his company, West Shore Homes, for the next 15 years. Werzyn, who is also a key figure in the Nittany Lions’ NIL efforts, is the largest individual contributor to the renovation project.

Werzyn’s naming deal has raised concerns within the Penn State Board of Trustees. Former Nittany Lions quarterback Matt McGloin publicly opposed the agreement, suggesting that any field naming should honor former coach Joe Paterno. Despite McGloin’s objections, the trustees voted 22-8 in favor of the naming agreement.
