INDIANAPOLIS — If you’ve been following March Madness, you’ve likely heard the name Cooper Flagg.
The Duke standout was just honored with two major awards: the 2024-25 Oscar Robertson Trophy for National Player of the Year and the Wayman Tisdale Award for National Freshman of the Year.
Flagg is only the fourth player in history to win both honors in the same season, according to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. He’s also the ninth Duke player to claim the National Player of the Year title and the sixth to earn Freshman of the Year.
Leading the No. 1 Blue Devils, Flagg has racked up 636 points, 256 rebounds, 141 assists, 49 steals, and averages 1.3 blocks per game.
He made ACC history by winning both Player and Rookie of the Week honors in the same week five times this season — the first player to ever do it more than twice.
On Jan. 11, Flagg became the youngest player in NCAA history to score 40 points in a game, dropping 42 against Notre Dame and breaking both Duke and ACC freshman single-game scoring records.
Flagg will be formally recognized at the Final Four in San Antonio next month and will receive his awards at the USBWA Awards Dinner on April 17.
Duke has advanced to the Sweet 16 and will face No. 4 Arizona on Thursday. Catch the action on WFMY News 2.
