Expectations are rising for the Detroit Lions to capitalize on their current Super Bowl window.
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is now entering the prime of his NFL career.
With the team firmly in contention, it’s crucial for the organization to maximize its championship chances over the next few seasons.
A recent CBS Sports list ranking quarterbacks under the “most pressure” to win a Lombardi Trophy included Detroit’s starter.
Alongside the 30-year-old were Joe Burrow, Dak Prescott, Lamar Jackson, and Josh Allen.
Writer Jeff Kerr noted, “Goff is the third quarterback to win 13+ games in a season for two different teams (Brady, Peyton Manning) yet is just 4-5 in the playoffs while completing 61.2% of his passes with an 85.1 passer rating. Can Goff perform well enough in the playoffs to win a championship?”
Detroit still has salary cap flexibility for the 2025 NFL season, but in 2026, general manager Brad Holmes and his staff will likely need to restructure contracts with high cap hits.
New deals for Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Penei Sewell will start taking a greater toll on the team’s budget in the years ahead.
“The Lions are in ‘win-now’ mode and have an excellent chance to win the Super Bowl in 2025,” Kerr wrote. “There’s a lot of pressure on Goff to overcome his playoff struggles and get Detroit to the Super Bowl, especially for a franchise that has never been there.”
Over the past two seasons, the former No. 1 overall pick has led Detroit to a 27-7 record as a starter, throwing 67 touchdowns and 24 interceptions in that span.
Unfortunately for Goff, Detroit lost its last two playoff games despite scoring 30 or more points against the 49ers and Commanders.
