The Kentucky Wildcats are deep in preparation for their upcoming matchup against the Tennessee Volunteers this Friday in Indianapolis. However, they remain active on the recruiting front as more players enter the transfer portal.
Several names have already surfaced as Kentucky targets, and now two more have been added to the list. One of them is a familiar name for Big Blue Nation.
According to Jacob Polacheck of KSR, Kentucky has reached out to Indiana transfer forward Mackenzie Mgbako. Polacheck also reports that the staff has shown interest in Syracuse transfer guard Elijah Moore.
Starting with Mgbako, the former five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American spent the last two seasons at Indiana after initially committing to Duke. Kentucky briefly recruited him during that process.
Hailing from New Jersey, Mgbako had a solid year with the Hoosiers, averaging 12.2 points per game while shooting 43.7% from the field and 33% from three-point range. He also contributed 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
This appears to be an early-stage inquiry, but if Mgbako enters the NBA Draft after this season, he could fill a role similar to Otega Oweh. His recruitment will be one to watch in the coming weeks.
Now, onto Moore.
A Bronx native, Moore had a respectable freshman season with Syracuse, posting 5.2 points per game while shooting 39% from the field and 31.5% from beyond the arc.
As a former four-star recruit and top-60 prospect in the 2024 class, Moore has significant potential that could shine in the right system. Could that system be in Lexington? That remains uncertain for now.
It’s clear that Kentucky’s coaching staff is once again casting a wide net this offseason. Now, Mgbako and Moore join the growing list of transfer targets to keep an eye on.
