Austin Reaves Injury Update: Lakers Optimistic He’ll Play Despite Ankle Issue

Austin Reaves twisted his right ankle during the LA Lakers’ loss to the Bulls but continued playing, with reports indicating he is expected to be available for the next game.

Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves put on an impressive display Thursday night, scoring 30 points on 10-of-17 shooting in a close 119-117 defeat to the Chicago Bulls.

The Lakers’ heartbreaking loss wasn’t their only concern—Reaves also injured his ankle, the same one he previously sprained and missed games for.

With 6:04 remaining in the fourth quarter, Reaves rolled his right ankle while attacking the basket. Despite the setback, he finished the game. Jovan Buha of The Athletic later provided an update.

“It looked pretty bad, but he kept playing, so it’s something to monitor for Saturday’s game. Right now, it seems like he’ll be fine and able to play through it,” Buha said on his podcast. “That’s my take on the situation.”

“I don’t think Austin is seriously hurt, as far as I know,” the reporter added.

This season, Reaves has played 65 games, averaging 19.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per contest.

“Just wanted to be there for my teammates,” Reaves said after the game. “I’ve rolled my ankle before, and I’ll do it again. I just love playing.”

The Lakers, now 44-29, hold the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference. They will conclude their four-game road trip on Saturday against the Memphis Grizzlies, a team they are currently tied with in the standings.
