Former Lions Wide Receiver Joins Jets on One-Year Contract

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the New York Jets have signed veteran wide receiver Josh Reynolds to a one-year deal worth up to $5 million.

Reynolds, 30, arrives in New York after splitting last season between the Denver Broncos and Jacksonville Jaguars. In nine games, he recorded 13 receptions for 194 yards and one touchdown.

Before that, the 6-foot-3 receiver spent three seasons as a crucial piece of the Detroit Lions’ offense. Reynolds became a trusted target for Jared Goff, his former Los Angeles Rams teammate, and a favorite of head coach Dan Campbell, who gave him the nicknames “Serpent of Death” and “Praying Mantis.”

In 38 games (29 starts) with Detroit, Reynolds hauled in 97 catches for 1,393 yards and 10 touchdowns.

During his final season with the Lions (2023), Reynolds had one of his best years, catching 40 passes for 608 yards and five touchdowns. However, his last game with the team remains memorable for the wrong reasons.

In the 2023 NFC Championship Game, Reynolds had multiple drops that contributed to Detroit’s heartbreaking loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

After that season and unsuccessful contract talks, Reynolds departed Detroit and signed a two-year, $9 million deal with Denver.

Last year, Reynolds was involved in a shooting incident near a Denver nightclub in October but managed to return later that season with Jacksonville.

Along with the Rams, Lions, Broncos, and Jaguars, Reynolds also had a stint with the Tennessee Titans.

Reynolds entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick by the Rams in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M.
