Kim Mulkey Wears Bold Outfit for LSU-UCLA with a Simple Four-Word Message

Kim Mulkey Shows Off Outfit for LSU-UCLA with a Four-Word Statement

LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey knows that her bold fashion choices on the sidelines often attract as much attention as the success of her Tigers teams.

This was true on Friday night when her black-and-gold attire for LSU’s Sweet 16 victory over NC State led to a flurry of jokes on social media.

When she arrived at Spokane Arena on Sunday for LSU’s Elite Eight matchup with No. 1 UCLA, the 62-year-old coach took control of the narrative. As reporters captured her entrance in a shimmering floral outfit, she responded to their questions with a four-word statement of her own.

“What’s our state flower?” Mulkey asked, referring to the design on her jacket.

Her sequined lavender jacket featured magnolias, Louisiana’s state flower, and was paired with white pants and a matching shirt underneath.

Although the outfit was more subdued by her usual standards, the jacket’s lapels added a burst of bold purple, which was close to LSU’s signature color.

Although Mulkey was born in California, her ties to Louisiana run deep. She played college basketball at Louisiana Tech, winning two national championships there.

She began her coaching career at Louisiana Tech before spending 21 seasons coaching at Baylor University in Texas. In 2021, she returned to Louisiana to take the LSU head coaching position.
